Autism & Law Enforcement: Why It Matters

Autism is particularly challenging when it comes to interactions with law enforcement. The very nature of autism will challenge every instinct instilled into a highly trained police officer. Without awareness and training, these interactions can degrade into physical confrontations, which often end tragically and lead to litigation on the autistic person's behalf.

This article about law enforcement was published in the March/April 2008 issue of the Wisconsin Police Chief Association's Newsletter.
