Today I spent the day learning about what happens when someone calls 911 in Dane County. Call centers are well-organized and complex places that use software, computer systems, and good old-fashioned maps to direct emergency and non-emergency calls.
When an emergency call comes in, it is logged and sent out to other stations where waiting operators simultaneously dispatch police, fire, EMS, or some combination thereof. It was fascinating to see it all work so seamlessly together.
Many thanks to the managers and operators who hosted my visit!
